National meeting of UNGC Network Bulgaria - working to change the relationship between society and responsible business

21 February 2018

Sopharma Ltd took part in the yearly meeting of the National council of the UNGC Network Bulgaria, during which plans were made for the companies' joint activities aiming to improve different aspects of life here. For years, responsible business has been investing in projects which are important not only for itself and for parties involved with it, but also for the public, as they strive for social resilience and change. The rebirth of the awareness that one's quality of life depends on one's own efforts is the founding principle in the joint projects of the companies that are part of the UNGC Network Bulgaria.

The strategic plan 2015+ which the network is developing includes initiatives for the UN's Goals of strategic development, thought by the companies as significant and the companies also recognised some to which those goals could contribute as relevant.

4. Good Health and Well-being

5. Quality Education

8. Decent Work and Economic Growth

9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

11. Sustainable Cities and Communities

12. Responsible Consumption and Production

16. Peace and Justice Strong Institutions

17. Partnerships to achieve the Goal

Sopharma Ltd is amongst the active companies in the "Health and Safety at Work" programme of Goal 4, which includes the projects Games for Good, Restricting Tobacco Smoking and Healthy Living.

As part of the "Proud of My Parents' Work" initiative Sopharma is gradually involving its factories in the country, the plant in Vrabevo having joined in 2016, the plant in Kazanlak in 2017 and the planned addition of the plant in Sandanski in 2018.

The project Responsible Choice is among the company's "favourites", as it aims to provoke not only responsible actions as users, but also as a civil society which chooses and enforces model behaviours and standards which it should aim for on its own.

There are upcoming meetings to plan the specific projects for the active programmes.
